Set Your Minds on Things Above

Monday morning during my quiet time, this verse came to mind. It is a simple verse. Nothing complicated, but straight to the point.

“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”

Are our minds set on eternal things or temporal? Are we consumed with things that are fleeting and things that will pass away? Or are we so focused on the Great Commission in spreading and living the Word of God, which should fuel every fiber of our being? Are we the salt and light into a dark world?

Isaiah 40:8 says

The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever.

God’s word stands FOREVER. This is the one and only thing in this world that will NEVER perish. The one thing that is constant. The one thing that can tear down walls, crush evil, and turn the hardest of hearts back to Him.

May the Word of God be flowing into us, through us, and pour out around us. May our hearts and minds be so focused on Christ that THIS is what changes a hurting and dying world. CHRIST came to redeem, restore, and heal and broken world and He called us (Matthew 28:18-20) to be His hands and feet in sharing this message and this message alone.

Anything other than the Word that consumes us should be set aside. It is through the Word that we (those who profess to be Christ Followers and Believers) take our cues and receive guidance, knowledge, wisdom, correction, understanding, the list goes on and on, for this life. May the Word pour from our pores and be ever present on our lips.
