Quiet Mornings

Quiet Mornings

When I decided to make a conscientious effort to wake up early in the morning for time purposefully spent in the Word, it was hard and took (still takes) discipline. Forming the habit of not hitting my alarm over and over was hard. It also meant adjusting other things, like going to bed earlier, not watching that one show, and choosing to make this a priority.

This morning time is also not because I HAVE to, but because I WANT to. It does not win me points, get me to Heaven, or elevate me among people. It allows me to KNOW God, have a relationship (not a religion) with God that is free from regulations, laws, and check marks. And it is because of what Jesus did for me on the cross, because He is the Saving Grace of this World, because He is God in flesh, I am able to be KNOWN by God (Galatians 4:9a).

And for this I wake up early. To revel in His goodness. Revel in what He did for me when I didn't deserve it. To also sit in the quiet of the morning and let my heart and mind be filled with His goodness for the day... And so much more. It gives me purpose in a world that often feels purposeless. It gives me hope and joy especially in a time when I should feel the complete opposite.

My purpose too in sharing something so intimate for me is not in boasting by any means, but to encourage you to join me and find your own carved out quiet time with the One who gives you the very breath you breathe.
