Fri-YAY! A Much Needed Winter Break!

Fri-YAY! A Much Needed Winter Break!

Yesterday was our last day meeting at our Classical Conversations Community for 2019! So crazy to realize we are halfway through another school year!

Every year right around this time many homeschool parents are READY for a break! A break from the daily tasks, a break from schedules, a break from the grind. And I am grateful Christmas takes place when it does. Breaks like this allow me to regroup and focus back on what is most important and our WHY for homeschooling. Remembering our WHY for homeschooling fuels me for the reason I chose this journey of education for my kids and excites me for the weeks (and years) ahead.

One of my favorite homeschool books of encouragement is Teaching From Rest by Sarah Mackenzie. I received it last year as a Christmas gift and it came at the perfect time. At the time I was feeling frustrated, a tad overwhelmed, and needed to be refreshed and reminded that simplicity is okay. In fact, it’s more than okay, it’s GOOD. Very good!

It’s easy to want to laminate all the things, go Pinterest crazy, or try and mimic someone else’s style, homeschool life, or Instagram feed. All of which will drive you to want to quit what you were so excited to begin and do because not living authentically you will do just that.

Teaching From Rest was the breath of fresh air that I needed last year. It was that reminder that in this journey of homeschooling, I need to remember to be authentically myself and no one else. I need to follow the path that God has called ME to, and not what He has called my friend to.

If you are at a place in your homeschool journey where you are feeling a little fried, a little burnt out and you’re only half way through the year, I want to invite you to REST and pause; to take a Sabbath during this holiday season. Open a journal, pray, meditate on Scripture, and if it doesn’t overwhelm you, pick up this super short 81 page book and be reminded that teaching doesn’t need to come from a place of exhaustion, but that teaching can also come from a place of rest.
