DIY Designs || Decorating on a Dime
Finding ways to decorate walls has often times left me stumped. I love photo walls, but it can look cluttered. I love art, but I get bored easily and big pieces of art feel like a big commitment.
While flipping through one of my favorite decor books, I once read that if you love something i.e. cutting boards, baskets, baking tins etc, hanging them in groups turns an ordinary item into a collection. For example, if you love vintage breadboards, hang a bunch of them on the wall. Love old jello tins, hang them in a group! And voila! You have a collection of beautiful pieces that by themselves look and feel lonely, but in a group, creates an art collection.
The space above my couch in our bonus room has always annoyed me. It's a big blank wall and I had had a big single picture hanging behind it. The one stagnant picture just felt blah and boring. I didn't want another photo wall as I had that in another room... Then one day, I was scrolling through Instagram and saw a beautiful wall of baskets and thought, "Hey! I can do that! AND CHEAPLY!"
I had a few baskets already at the house and placed them on the floor to get an idea of how I wanted to hang them on the wall. Then headed to the second hand store to pick up a few more to finish the collection. I probably spent less than $5 for all of the baskets hanging on the wall. Easy peasy and finally pulled the room together with other vintage pieces already in there.
